The Return of Curved Glass

Decades have passed, and yet I would know that shape anywhere. I catch a glimpse from across the avenue, all sculpted curves and fragile lines, but it’s not ’til I’m closer that it all comes flooding back. The rebellious nights. The loud music. The bright colors. I remember it with such clarity. We certainly had some good times together. I mean, some days were frustrating as anything could be, but it was worth it. Why on earth did we let this go?

Standing tall in the glow of street-lamps, it’s clear that the rebellion is still there, something quirky and fun just on the other side, but it has aged to a comfortable elegance. Less groovy, more graceful. But no less artistic and stylish. I check my reflection and could swear I see the young man I once was staring back at me. Some things just resonate.

It’s a few nights later, and friends are taking notice too. “It's about time,” the believers exclaim, but a few naysayers sulk in grumbles of “not this again.” Most make predictions about how long it will last. I don’t really care what they say either way. I never want to be separated again.

Curved glass, our muse, has returned. What new twists and turns will this relationship take? What artistic potentialities has curved glass yet to display? Only time will tell. For now, let’s embrace the return of our old friend as a nostalgic reminder of days past and a hopeful love letter to the future.
